Most Nords know Loki as a deranged entity, dangerous at best, downright hostile and deadly at worst. He is the father of monsters, the bane of the Aesir and a constant thorn in the sides of heros, mortals and gods alike. However for all his faults it was Loki who created the Goltr, the only animal in Manheim that can survive in the wild, yet can also be domesticated. Its flesh is succulent and its hardy constitution makes parasites vanishingly rare, although not unknown, and its leather is supple, resilient and remarkably warm. Clever and loyal, Goltr can be trained for a number of roles, and it's common to see herds of these beasts loaded onto ships on raid. That more foes and handlers have fallen to their occasionally murderous temperament than any other beast, or that their ravenous omnivorous appetite has earned the Nords a reputation for cannibalism seldom crosses people's minds, but never fails to bring a smile to an old, deranged god. How They Play:Viscious and at times uncontrollable, the Goltr beastpacks run ahead of the main force crashing violently on enemy lines, leaving behind them scattered formations - the rest of the raiding force can easily pick appart. Where Fenr excel at quickly enveloping an enemy force's flanks, the Goltr act as the hard hitting bestial hammer!

The origins of chivalry and the feudal order can, like almost all institutions of the Hundred Kingdoms, be traced back to the establishment of the Kataphraktoi Taghmata in the Old Dominion. Their cost of their mount, equipment and deployment as well as effectiveness on the battlefield set these warriors on a league of their own. A Mounted Strategos is the epitome of this ancient warrior code, a paragon of a bygone age mounted on his ritual companion, whose faded glory and tattered panoply cannot dim the blazing intellect and sheer will that smolder within this faded vessel.

This is in large part due to the conflicting nature of their goals, but also closely tied to the idealism of their cause and the zeal with which they pursue it. Most Orders forces are concentrated in small groups called cloisters that usually operate from a single fortified monastery or abbey. A priory Commander is the greatest amongst his peers, elected by them to lead them in combat and represent their interests at the round table of Argem.

Not all beasts employed by the W’adrhun are hulking monstrosities that dominate the battlefield. They have in fact almost managed to domesticate a smaller breed, affectionately called the uzibukhali, (smart claw). Packs of these feathered menaces roam W’adrhun settlements keeping them clear of vermin and smaller predators in exchange for scraps and access to the charnel pits. In times of war they are easily wrangled into packs and unleashed upon the scouts and forerunners of the enemies force, their cunning and ferocity making them more than a match for more powerful opponents.

Companion Cavalry are rather an outlier in the City States forces, mainly because they do not, in the strictest sense of the word, belong to the citizen soldiery army of most armies. The Companions are rather a voluntary force drawn from among the wealthy Oligarch and noble families of the City States. Armed and armoured in the finest weapons money can buy, these impetuous scions of nobility are trained by retired Polemarchs and Aristarchs in the private gymnasiums of the wealthy while their horsemanship is honed in the massive hippodromes that tend to dominate the skylines of each City State. Despite their eclectic training and impetuous nature these horsemen are a valuable enough tool that the City States have diverged from their orthodox army organization to incorporate them.
How they Play:
The quintessential long-range precision tool for every City States commander, Companion cavalry shines when operating deep behind enemy lines. They threaten enemy light regiments and function as rapid shock cavalry—charging, withdrawing, and then charging again!

In the early days of the Old Dominion the Kataphractoi were the Caelesors chosen Companions, or Hetairoi, armed with the finest arms and armor he could furnish and mounted atop the greatest steeds he could find. As the Old Dominion evolved, these ancient formations were abandoned, but not the title of Hetairos. Granted to the greatest champions of the Old Dominon, this was a title granted only by the Caelesor himself for deeds of valor upon the field of battle. Some of that prowess and glory remain in their withered remnants, and the Hetairoi are the first among equals in a Kataphractoi warband, their mere presence reminding their companions of the glorious charges of ages past.
How they PlayHetairos or colloquially known as “Companions” are veterans that have proven themselves to their superiors and higher command and entrusted to lead the mighty Kataphraktoi into battle. This Officer allows the Regiment to further lean into its shock cavalry role and deliver devastating flank charges where the fighting is thickest!

A massive humanoid torso crowns the baroque, armored equine monstrosity of the Centaur Avatara, bristling with arms each carrying a deadly blade. Scoffing at the notion of partnership with another being, but keenly aware of the advantages of cavalry upon the field, Spires created the Centaur iterations of the Avatara to mimic the original knights, the companions and equites of the Old Dominion. To date these have been reserved for only the eldest and most powerful elders of the Lineages. The Order of the Crimson Tower has taken upon itself to combat one of the great scourges of mankind: War. They have forsaken the notion of eliminating it entirely, instead focusing on ensuring it causes as little collateral damage as possible. Incredibly scrupulous in securing employment, they not only demand their employer have a strong Casus Belli (legal reason for war) but demand from their employers that no looting or pillaging take place. Were they any less effective in combat, these terms would make them incredibly unpopular, but such is their prowess that many lords are willing to forsake the material gains of war in order to secure their service.

While female Speakers display an admirable affinity to the carnivorous Raptors that dwell within their primal lands, they are not the only cavalry the W’adrhŭn can bring to bear. Riding juvenile Brontoceratops (the elder beasts being too stubborn and docile to be goaded to battle) the Thunder Riders descend on the enemy formations in an unstoppable avalanche of muscle, crest and violence. The sheer power and impact these mounts can bring to bear as they stampede and trample enemy lines has earned these young riders a terrifying reputation that belies their years.
How they Play:
The W'adrhŭn version of Heavy Shock Cavalry, the Thunder Riders focus more on a debilitating Charge rather than sustained combat, even though their defensive stats would naturally protect them. Although their Movement stats are more in line with Brutes, this Cavalry Regiment will give any defensive formation a real run for its points.
